“ISO 22000 : 2005”
ISO 22000:2005 specifies requirements for a food safety management system where an organization in the food chain needs to demonstrate its ability to control food safety hazards in order to ensure that food is safe at the time of human consumption.
It is applicable to all organizations which are involved in any aspect of the food chain and want to implement systems that consistently provide safe products.
ISO 22000:2005 specifies requirements to enable an organization:
- to plan, implement, operate, maintain and update a food safety management system aimed at providing products that, according to their intended use, are safe for the consumer,
- to demonstrate compliance with applicable statutory and regulatory food safety requirements,
- to evaluate and assess customer requirements and demonstrate conformity with those mutually agreed customer requirements that relate to food safety, in order to enhance customer satisfaction,
- to effectively communicate food safety issues to their suppliers, customers and relevant interested parties in the food chain,
- to ensure that the organization conforms to its stated food safety policy,
- to demonstrate such conformity to relevant interested parties,
- to seek certification or registration of its food safety management system by an external organization, or make a self-assessment or self-declaration of conformity to ISO 22000:2005.

“ISO 9001 : 2008 ”
The actual standard to which an organization's quality management can be certified is ISO 9001:2008. The ISO 9001:2008 is part of the ISO 9000 family. These standards are related to quality management systems and designed to help organizations ensuring they meet the needs of customers and other stakeholders.
The applying organization is assessed based on an extensive sample of its sites, functions, products, services and processes; a list of problems is made known to the management. If there are no major problems on this list, or after it receives a satisfactory improvement plan from the management showing how any problems will be resolved, the certification body will issue an ISO 9001 certificate.
It is widely acknowledged that proper quality management improves business, having a positive effect on investment, market share, sales growth, sales margins, competitive advantage, and avoidance of litigation. The implementation of the quality principles content in ISO 9001:2008 give the following advantages:
- to create a more efficient, effective operation,
- to increase customer satisfaction,
- to improve employee motivation, awareness, and morale,
- to promote international trade,
- to reduce waste and increases productivity.

“BRC Food ( British Retail Consortium, 2005)”
BRC Food certification is a food technical standard created in 1998 by “the British Retail Consortium”. This certification responds to industry needs and helps to evaluate manufacturers of retailers own brand food products.
It is designed to assist retailers and brand owners produce food products of consistent quality and safety and assist with their 'due diligence' defense, should they be subject to a prosecution by the enforcement authorities. Under EU food Law, retailers and brand owners have a legal responsibility for their brands.
In a short space of time, this Standard became invaluable to a lot of organizations across the sector. It was and still is regarded as the benchmark for best practice in the food industry. This and its use outside the UK has seen it evolve into a Global Standard used not just to assess retailer suppliers, but as a framework upon which many companies have based their supplier assessment programs and manufacture of branded products.
Many UK, North American and many European retailers, and brand owners only consider business with suppliers who have gained certification to the appropriate BRC Global Standard. BRC will bring the following benefits to an organization:
- to enhance food safety and food safety management system,
- to show commitment to producing safe food,
- to achieve recognition and acceptance from the UK retailer community,
- to increase customers product safety and quality confidence,
- to reduce the number of supplier audits/assessments.

“IFS Food (International Food Standard, 2007)”
The aim of IFS or “The International food standard”, which is applicable to suppliers throughout the world, is to focus the various requirements of retailers on one standard. Benefits of the standard include enhanced transparency along the food chain and a reduced number of customer audits. Certification to IFS by helps suppliers demonstrate to retailers that their product safety, quality and legal obligations are fulfilled.
The structure of IFS corresponds to ISO 9001, but with a focus on food safety, HACCP, hygiene, the manufacturing process and business surroundings. This certification gives many advantages:
- to demonstrate a commitment to supplying a safe quality food product,
- helps to ensure the company is meeting legal and regulatory obligations,
- to enhance the company’s ability to supply retailers through internationally recognized product assurance,
- supports enhanced product safety thereby minimizing product liability risks and recalls,
- acknowledged by the Global Food Safety initiative, a task force of leading global food chains, which further enhances its reputation,
- to reduce both internal and external audit costs by using one uniform standard,
- the certification process supports continuous improvement through ongoing surveillance and corrective actions.

“Controllo Biologico CCPB”
CCPB Inc. is an inspection and certification body accredited by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Policy (MIPAAF) to implement EC Reg. 834/07, and its subsequent amendments, regulating companies which produce,
prepare, process and distribute products obtained using the organic agriculture method.
CCPB Inc. has also obtained the necessary accreditation to qualify and to certify organic agriculture products destined for various international markets. The logo "Controllo Biologico" (organically tested) can only be issued to companies that are members of the consortium "Consorzio il Biologico" and that comply with the terms and conditions of its charter.
In 2002, as the first organization in Italy, it achieved the important recognition to operate in accordance with the laws of the United States of America (NOP – National Organic Program) and Japan (JAS). CCPB Inc. also operate as an inspection body to test and to verify if the companies has reached the required standards to export their products to the major European countries, including Bio Suisse in Switzerland, Soil Association in the United Kingdom and Krav for Sweden and the Scandinavian markets.
Furthermore in 2009, it received an accreditation by the CFIA for the COR scheme (Canadian Organic Regime).

“OHASAS 18001:2007”
OHSAS 18001 is an Occupation Health and Safety Assessment Series for health and safety management systems. It is comprised of two parts, 18001 and 18002 and embraces BS8800 and a number of other publications. OHSAS 18001 was created via a concerted effort from a number of the worlds leading national standards bodies, certification bodies, and specialist consultancies.
It is intended to help an organizations to control occupational health and safety risks. It was developed in response to widespread demand for a recognized standard against which to be certified and assessed.
The OHSAS specification is applicable to any organisation that wishes:
- to establish an OH&S management system to eliminate or minimise risk to employees and other interested parties who may be exposed to OH&S risks associated with its activities,
- to assure itself of its conformance with its stated OH&S policy,
- to demonstrate such conformance to others,
- to implement, maintain and continually improve an OH&S management system,
- to make a self-determination and declaration of conformance with this OHSAS specification,
- to seek certification/registration of its OH&S management system by an external organisation.
La norma OHSAS 18001:1999 è stata emanata dal BSI nel 1999 e rivista nel 2007, così da poter disporre di uno standard per il quale potesse essere rilasciata una certificazione di conformità . L’edizione 2007 rappresenta quindi la prima emissione di una vera e propria “norma” come tale riconosciuta a livello internazionale in quanto standard ufficiale in materia di salute e sicurezza sul lavoro.
